(500) Days Of Tumblr - Part 2
Click here to read Part 1.
Tom knew that Tumblr was different the moment he saw it. While fooling around on his laptop during a work meeting, it seemed to appear out of no where. Tom was so immediately taken by the website that he didn’t even need to read the list of 30 reasons why he’d love Tumblr before he created his account. Yet love Tumblr he did, and while it started out as a crush, these feelings quickly grew, and he was eager to explain them to anyone who asked:
“I love its dashboard. I love its accessibility. I love its blue background. I love getting new followers. I love searching through the directory. I love customising my page layout. I love how it makes me feel… Like, anything’s possible… Like, life is worth it…”
Before long, Tom was spending the majority of his free time at home, alone, on the computer. When his friends questioned his actions, he responded with “People don’t realise this, but, loneliness… it’s underrated.” While Tom’s friends viewed his new, hermit-like lifestyle as terribly isolated, the Tumblr community left Tom with no such feelings. He wasn’t alone. He had followers, and he was getting more on a daily basis. Below is Tom’s reaction to waking up to find he had hit 100 followers:

Months passed in a whirlwind of likes and reblogs. Followers came and went, as did memes. Leonardo DiCaprio strutted through and Michael Cera pranced by, along with countless others. Anonymous questions were asked and received and everything in Tom’s world seemed right.
Then things changed…
